Are You A Cylon?
Is the most sough after answer in the series Battlestar Galactica.
I love Battlestar Galactica. I am a huge fan. As it is such a great show, I hope to be writing this for at least some of you Hubbers out there hooked on it as well. It's like the more I watch it the more things that I discover that I didn't see before. I've re-watched the entire series from the beginning until the first half of the fourth season and now I have even more questions than the first time around. There are so many subtle comments made by the characters that later on turn out to be so crucial. I simply cannot wait until the second half of the season starts next month.
For those of you that follow the show, you know that they have finally found earth. Of course, being that they found it in the middle of the season and not at the end of the show only means that there are so many new things to come as to what happened on earth, why it is a wasteland, etc... It always felt that the series would end with the fleet reaching our planet, that's where the show always seemed to be heading. So by throwing this curve ball, now we can only wonder what he 'frak' they will come p with for the ending of the show.
In one of the previews for the fourth season's second half, there's a very brief shot of Galean (the Chief) wearing sunglasses and a suit and looking up at a very bright light along with a bunch of other people. This is shown as a flashback as he touches a wall, which seems to be the same wall he was standing next to in what looks to be a vision he has. This can only be seen clearly if you slow down the motion on your DVR (that's how I saw this, I paused the player and then hit one frame at time - yes this is how obsessed I am with this show, ok?!) Anyway, so as has been hinted all over the BSG plane, the final five cylons came from earth.
The timeframe in which they were on earth is unknown, and the whole mystery lies with just this. How did they get from earth to the twelve colonies? Why are they different than the other seven cylons? They don't seem to have multiple copies of themselves like the seven do and they also seem to age like humans and go through a whole life cycle from birth, unlike the others, which don't age and are 'born' as adults. Another big question is, how are the 'Gods' involved in all of this? Why do the cylons have one true God, like we humans do and the humans from the twelve colonies have multiple gods?
Then we have other huge mysteries like Kara Thrace. What happened to her viper when she went through that storm? Lee saw her blow up, how did she end up on earth and then back to the fleet over two months later? Who is Kara really? She is not a cylon because they used Baltar's cylon detector and she tested out human. And yes, Baltar's detector did work, even though he told everyone later that he let everyone pass the test when he was given the duty of testing the whole fleet it did detect Boomer as a cylon (which we all know to be true). So what is she??
If you are a BSG fan you may like these...
And then, of course, there's the revolving and mind numbing enigma that is Gaius Baltar. In the beginning of the show he just seems to be a self centered, arrogant wimp who happens to be a genius. He's directly involved in almost everything that affects the show, but in weird and contradictively indirect ways. He has an 'imaginary' cylon model that keeps telling him what to do and it always turns out to work out, or better yet, to be something that there's no way he could have known on his own given the circumstances. So is this imaginary 'angel sent from God' as she calls herself an entity, or is it Baltar's own mind that somehow has a higher knowledge? Whatever it is, nothing can explain it and it's burning a hole in every fan's head as to what the explanation is.
As the show progresses the questions grow. They keep entwining the mystery tighter and tighter and It's this that makes every fan come back for more. Which lastly brings me to another puzzle of BSG and that is WHY the 'frak' end it already after just four seasons??? This is by far one of the greatest shows on television ever and it blows by most of the junk that's on prime time today! The producers say they don't want it to end on a low note and want to finish things while the show is still hot, but honestly.... after only four seasons? They could have gotten a good run with six or seven seasons -at least! Oh well. We'll take what we have, I guess....
All us BSG heads have left to do is wait for the last half of the final season to start and then watch the 2 hour movie that will follow. Then after that, like little children waiting for a new toy, we will wait for the DVD's to come out so we can watch over and over and over until it's all embedded into our cylon minds. What? Did I say our cylon minds? Well... what if... what if we are all cylons? Hmmmm....
So Say We All!
